In fifteen years of Indigenous services at St. Paul’s University College, there have been various Indigenous camps offered on campus, but last week was the first Indigenous Leadership Entrepreneurship and DesignThinking (LEAD) camp ever offered here—or anywhere.

On March 15, the same day more than a million students globally participated in a strike for climate change, a group of university and college students gathered in the GreenHouse space at St. Paul’s University College to help make the change their peers were calling for, participating in the Environment Design Challenge (EDC), sponsored by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).

Teferi's return from Ethiopia

St. Paul’s economics professor Teferi Mergo says, “I grew up in Ethiopia during a very turbulent time, surrounded by serious economic hardships and socio-political upheaval.” This experience sparked his interest in development economics, a subject he teaches as an assistant professor at the University of Waterloo, jointly appointed at St Paul’s and in the Economics Department.

In Memoriam: Dr. William (Bill) Klassen

The St. Paul's University College community was saddened to learn of the passing of William (Bill) Klassen who served as Principal of the College from 1989-1994.

The Art in the Halls

The annual Blackforest Coffeehouse has long been a musical tradition at St. Paul’s. But last year, the organizers decided to add an art gallery to the event—and were delighted to discover that not only is St. Paul’s home to many talented musicians but also to a wide variety of gifted visual artists.

Opening doors

It was supposed to increase accessibility, but it also “opened the door” to so much more.

The Waterloo Indigenous Student Centre at St. Paul’s opened in 2012, providing a welcome space for the sharing of Indigenous knowledge, culturally relevant information and support services for all members of the University of Waterloo community, including Indigenous and non-Indigenous students, staff, and faculty.
