Immigration advising

We have an experienced and dedicated team of advisors that are happy to assist you during your time at the University of Waterloo. All of our International Student Advisors are Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants with the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council. All consultations with the International Student Advisors are free and confidential.

Attend one of our application assistance workshops or email us at with your Canadian immigration inquiries. You can also speak to us during advising drop-in hours.


Drop-in hours: Monday to Friday from 12:00 - 3:30 p.m.

Follow-up appointments: Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. or Tuesday and Thursday 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. If you have recently visited an advisor, you can email them directly to ask for a follow-up appointment.

Have your immigration documents ready

To be given immigration advice in-person or by email, you must show the following documents to the International Student Advisor along with your student ID number. Original documents, paper copies, or electronic copies are accepted. 

  • Passport
  • Temporary Resident Visa (Canada visa in passport)
  • Study permit
  • Work permit (if applicable)

Please note: New, incoming students outside of Canada with study permit questions should visit the Government of Canada immigration website. Also, we are not currently advising on becoming a Permanent Resident.
