Spring 2024 "Not Fees Arranged" NFA holds and how to avoid them

Thursday, May 23, 2024

What is an NFA hold?

An NFA hold is added to your student account if your registered status is not “Fees Arranged” by the NFA hold date for undergraduate (bachelor’s) students or the NFA hold date for graduate (master’s and doctoral) students. For the spring term, that date is May 18, 2024.

How do I become “Fees Arranged?”

Visit the Student Financial Services website to learn how to become “Fees Arranged,” by paying the entire term balance or submitting a promissory note.

What happens if I don’t become “Fees Arranged?”

For undergraduate (bachelor's) students, the NFA hold will restrict you from:

  • receiving any scholarships/bursaries or government loan funding for which you have qualified, e.g. OSAP.
  • being enrolled in the University Health Insurance Plan (international students only) or the supplementary health, dental and legal service plans administered by Studentcare.
  • viewing grades on Quest
  • course registration processes for future terms
  • accessing transcripts
  • receiving refunds
  • graduating

Additional notes for undergraduate students:

  • this hold does not affect your access to learn or your current course material
  • you will NOT be dropped from your classes
  • this does not apply if you are only enrolled in PD courses

For graduate students (master's and doctoral), the NFA hold will restrict you from:

  • receiving any scholarships/bursaries or government loan funding for which you have qualified, e.g. OSAP.
  • being enrolled in the University Health Insurance Plan (international students only) or the supplementary health, dental and legal service plans administered by Studentcare.
  • viewing grades on Quest
  • course registration processes for future terms
  • accessing transcripts
  • receiving refunds
  • graduating

In addition, if you are a graduate student who has not become “Fees Arranged” by May 27, 2024:

  • your courses will be dropped
  • you will lose access to course materials on LEARN

Additional notes for graduate students:

  • Graduate students on an inactive term for spring 2024 are not required to have "Fees Arranged" status.
  • Graduate students who will complete degree requirements by May 27, 2024 do not need to have “Fees Arranged” status for spring 2024.

How does the NFA hold come off?

  • The NFA hold will automatically come off your student account once your registered status on Quest is “Fees Arranged” for spring term.
  • If you have already paid your term charges in full or completed the Promissory Note but your registered status is still not showing as "Fees Arranged" after five days, contact:
