Find your path
Your uWaterloo English degree could take you anywhere.
You might expect that graduates of our program would become teachers, professors, professional communicators, reporters, novelists, and poets. But you might not expect that the Manager of Engineering Education at Google or the Principal Program Manager Lead on the .NET Team at Microsoft all started their careers at UWaterloo English.
Employers know that English graduates have effective communication skills, excellent project management skills, and creative approaches to problem-solving. Experiential learning opportunities in English classes and English co-op will allow you to further develop those skills.
Our graduates have gone on to positions in a broad variety of fields:
- Communications and Media Relations
- Law
- Teaching
- Government and Not-for-Profit Leadership
- Technical Writing, Editing
- Marketing and Recruitment
But you can build almost any career on the foundations of an English degree, and you will be flexible enough to adapt to changing work conditions in the future. Your English degree will prepare you for these careers by making you a critical and intensive reader, a clear and persuasive writer, and a lateral and creative thinker.
