The Investigative Journalism Bureau (IJB) is hiring two Unifor Summer Interns

IJB offers a dynamic and enriching environment for aspiring journalists to gain hands-on experience and contribute to meaningful projects. These internships provide invaluable opportunities for individuals
interested in honing their skills and conducting in-depth research. With guidance from experienced reporters, the selected interns will have the chance to immerse themselves in projects that are making a tangible impact.

Candidates must be academically strong and trained in investigative journalism techniques. This position requires strong research skills, focus and writing skills. Special consideration will be given to those with experience shooting and editing videos, recording and editing audio, or data journalism.
Successful candidates will show: a dedicated work ethic; organizational skills; the ability to work independently and produce outcomes; creativity in finding, interpreting and understanding complex information; and an unquenchable curiosity about how the world works.

Young BIPOC journalists are strongly encouraged to apply.


Major Responsibilities: This internship will focus on journalistic research and writing around a major public interest issue. The successful candidate will assist in researching investigative stories including conducting interviews; filing freedom of information requests; gathering public records from courts and government departments; interviewing subjects; conducting online database research; and filing
regular story memo updates detailing research findings. Interns are expected to
regularly contribute to drafting stories.

Research Assistant - Games Institute

We are seeking a Research Assistant to collaborate on the organization, promotion, knowledge mobilization, and knowledge translation for an ongoing SSHRC funded Speaker’s and Workshop Series at the Games Institute focused on anti-racism, decolonization, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The successful applicant will be responsible for variety of organizational and knowledge mobilization tasks, collaborating with researchers to help curate and mobilize a body of knowledge that provides members of our communities—both locally and nationally—with the fundamental understanding, critical questions, and practical skills to address current challenges identified across the games industry.

Undergraduate Peer Tutor Ambassador

The Writing and Communication Centre (WCC) is hiring undergraduate UWaterloo students from all faculties to be Undergraduate Peer Tutor Ambassadors at the WCC next year. In this dynamic role you will support your peers with a wide range of writing and communication assignments through pre-booked and drop-in appointments. You will also have opportunities to serve as a WCC ambassador by welcoming students, staff, and visitors to our offices in South Campus Hall, and by promoting WCC services across campus. Please read on for a more detailed description of the role responsibilities, the paid training content, and application instructions. Undergraduate Peer Tutor Ambassadors are paid $17/hour in their first year with the WCC.

Writer position for commercial real estate agents

Team of commercial real estate agents looking for a writer to periodically complete articles relating to the commercial real estate world.

Expectations:

Individual would be provided with a subject to write. They would research, interview individuals, if necessary, and, of course, write the article(s). They would work with a team of commercial real estate agents in any editing changes/revisions requested.

The team would provide some direction on the subject, but the writer will likely have to be independent in their writing.

The design of the article would be done in house by a graphic designer. The team would also have complete control over where this article would be published and sent.

Compensation:

Compensation would likely be on a per article basis and this would have to be negotiated with the team. If the writer has expectations for compensation, please forward them along. If are interested in this opportunity, please email Melissa Brodhagen directly.
