The Games Institute acknowledges that we are living and working on the traditional territory of the Attawandaron (also known as Neutral), Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples. The University of Waterloo is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land promised to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River.
Dr. John Muñoz - Chief Science Officer at J&F Alliance Group and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Waterloo - hosted an interactive workshop on October 4th, 2023. This workshop covered the exploration of biometrics (or physiological measures) in game user research, driven by advancements in sensing technologies and the increased accessibility of signal processing tools.
Dr. Muñoz’s workshop, titled “Physiological Measures for Games and VR: Novel Tools and Approaches” showcased how the growing body of research in games studios and startups is linking psychological states (mental conditions) to physiological signals and how this has strengthened the use of biometric technologies.
This workshop occurred as the second event as part of a GDC talk held by Dr. Muñoz with the purpose of providing valuable insights that complement user experience methodologies in the fields of psychology and technology and gaming. This workshop also provided wonderful experiences with deep insights for the attendees seen below.
