On November 22, GI faculty members Drs. Lai-Tze Fan (Sociology and Legal Studies) and Neil Randall (English Language and Literature) participated on the panel “The Practical Side of Interdisciplinary Research” which focused on the “ins and outs of building teams across faculties.”
The Games Institute is excited to announce the CfP for the upcoming International Conference on Games and Narrative 2025 (ICGaN'25). This year’s conference theme is “Adapt, Adopt, Adjust: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Adaptation, Storytelling, and Simulation” asks us to consider the power of adapted and adaptive narratives, experiences, genres, and mechanics.
GI members launches open-access feminist journal. This journal comes out of Drs. Wiens and MacDonald’s Feminist Think Tank, a research collective based at the GI, focusing on intersectional feminist design.
Following the success of last year’s visit, GI welcomed another cohort of visitors from Mexico eager to explore the world of games and interactive technology. These students are from the RoboSEIP program managed by Renison University. During the visit, students attended presentations and interactive sessions and participated in research.

For the first time in over five years, the Royal Society of Canada | La Société royale du Canada hosted their Excellence and Engagement Symposium in the Waterloo Region on November 15, 2023. The University of Waterloo was proud to present the varied and interdisciplinary projects the research institutes at the University engage in.
Dr. John Muñoz - Chief Science Officer at J&F Alliance Group and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Waterloo - hosted an interactive workshop on October 4th, 2023. This workshop covered the exploration of biometrics (or physiological measures) in game user research, driven by advancements in sensing technologies and the increased accessibility of signal processing tools.
