Join Elder Myeengun Henry for our annual water walk around Columbia Lake in honour of Josephine Mandamin
In 2003, Josephine Mandamin began walking around the Great Lakes to raise awareness about water pollution. Over 14 years, Josephine Mandamin and the group she founded, the Mother Earth Water Walkers, walked an estimated 17,000 km around the Great Lakes, inspiring thousands to participate in water walks in communities across Turtle Island (North America).
In response to Indigenous Teachings that water is sacred and is essential for all life to sustain on Mother Earth, we will walk in unity around Columbia Lake to remember our obligation to keep water clean and continue Josephine’s commitment alive.
Be sure to bring comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing, as the walk is around 2.5 miles in length and can take up to 1.5 hours.
All health staff, faculty, and students are welcome to attend!
We ask all attendees to meet at the Columbia Greenhouses site at 11:30 a.m.
