The University of Waterloo's 110th Convocation took place Tuesday, June 9, conferring degrees for graduates in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences.
Academic honours
In addition to the gold medal, departmental awards for highest academic standing in undergraduate studies went to Alice Chen (School of Public Health and Health Systems), Jason Elzinga (Department of Kinesiology), and Zachary Stevens (Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies).
Jennifer Carson, Doctor of Philosophy in Aging, Health, and Well-being (Recreation and Leisure Studies) was recognized for outstanding achievement in graduate studies.
Professor Laurie Hoffman-Goetz of the School of Public Health and Health Systems was honoured with the award of excellence in graduate supervision.
Alumni awards
At convocation, the Faculty was proud also to recognize alumni who have made outstanding contributions to the health and wellbeing of society through their professional accomplishments, public service, and/or academic excellence.
Dan Latendre (Recreation and Leisure Studies '88), founder and CEO of Igloo Software, was honoured with the AHS Alumni Achievement Award.
Christina Marchand (Health Studies '14, MPH candidate), co-founder of FullSoul Canada, received the AHS Young Alumni Award.
