Teaching excellence is a high priority for the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo.
Guidelines for Instructors are available below for many of the practical questions that need to be answered before teaching a course.
Teaching Resources provides a host of assets that may be valuable in managing your courses. The Faculty Teaching Fellow can provide support and resources, especially for first-time instructors. Enhancing Assessment Practices and AI in Math Assessments can both help with structuring your course for optimal instruction. Learning Resources are also available, notably including Prof. Dan Wolczuk's popular "Learning How to Learn" seminar videos, which are linked on every Learn page for students to view at their own leisure.
Affirming our commitment to the education of our students, we invite nominations for the annual Awards for Distinction in Teaching. Up to two awards each year are granted to teachers in the Faculty of Mathematics who have consistently demonstrated outstanding pedagogical skills and a deep commitment to our students’ education. The winners are honoured by a public citation along with a cash prize. Current students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to submit nominations. The deadline is May 17.
