Class of 2026 Header

Congratulations, let's get ready to graduate!

You’re about to join a prestigious network of more than 40,000 Waterloo Math alumni around the world and you should be proud of that. This will be the culmination of years of hard work, passion, and commitment and we can hardly wait to celebrate this achievement with you!

Program & Administrative Requirements

1. Verify your degree requirements

2. Submit an application to graduate

In your final academic term, you must complete the Application to Graduate form in Quest or through an online webform. Apply to graduate approximately one month prior to the completion of your degree requirements.

Those that degree complete:

  • September 1 – April 30 will be eligible for spring Convocation
  • May 1 – August 31 will be eligible for fall Convocation

3. Fees Owing

Please ensure that you have all course fees, library fees, parking fines, etc. paid by the end of your final term to ensure your diploma is in your graduation folder when you cross the stage to accept it.

To determine if you have other fees owing, check Quest under 'Personal Data' and select 'Service Indicators.' Please see the Quest help desk for further details.

4. Verify your degree status

Check your unofficial transcript on quest to ensure you have been recommended to graduate in the “Degrees Awarded” section.

5. Confirm Name and Address

Confirm your mailing address, home address, and email addresses on  Quest by  May 1st for spring convocation and  September 1st for fall convocation. This step ensures you receive your convocation invitation and information regarding tax receipts.

6. Ordering transcripts

Official undergraduate transcript requests are processed by The Centre.

Visit the Registars office convocation page to ensure you have completed all required steps.

Other Things To Consider Before You Graduate

  1. Take your graduation photos

    • Portrait sessions for students in the Class of 2026 are now open. Students must get their photos taken by mid-February in order to be included in the Class of 2026 composite.
      • Students in Class of 2026 are classified as students who are completing their degree during the Fall 2025, Winter 2026, and Spring 2026 terms.
    • Portrait sessions are arranged and managed directly by Newschool Photography. The University of Waterloo administration, including the Faculty of Math, is not involved. If you have questions about the portrait session process, please email Newschool Photography directly at help@newschoolphotography.com.
  2. Nominate a Valedictorian

    • Nominations for the June 2025 convocation have now closed. Please note, there are no undergraduate student valedictorians for Fall Convocation (October).
    • Nominations for the Class of 2026 valedictorians at the June 2026 convocation ceremony will open in January 2026.
  3. Sit on the Valedictorian Selection Committee

    • Applications for the selection committee have now closed and will reopen in January 2026 for the selection of the Class of 2026 Valedictorians.
  4. Looking to get involved with your graduating class?

    • Consider taking part in the Mathematics Graduation Committee. The MGC organizes events for graduating students in the Mathematics Faculty such as the Math Grad Ball.

Plan For Convocation

The University of Waterloo community gathers in June and October each year to celebrate the awarding of degrees at convocation. Ceremonies for Faculty of Mathematics graduating students are held in the main gymnasium of the Physical Activities Complex (PAC). In June, we hold three ceremonies to accommodate all of our graduating students; they begin at 10:00am, 2:30pm, and 6:30pm. In October, Math Faculty convocation ceremonies usually take place at 10:00 am only.

Convocation information is available on the UWaterloo Convocation website, including gown and hood rental and important ceremony information.

Ensure that you prepare yourself to convocate by reviewing the Convocation ceremony checklist prior to the ceremony.
