Position Title: Student Volunteer - Faculty Committee on Student Appeals (FCSA)

Time Commitment: Varies; may require intense concentrated period of work when a case is being considered. 

Location: Remote

Position Overview:

The role of the FCSA is to exercise the jurisdiction vested in faculty committees on student appeals as specified in section 3 of University Policy 72, “Student Appeals”.  We are seeking dedicated and responsible student volunteers to assist in the review and decision-making process. This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain experience in administrative processes, enhance their critical thinking skills, and contribute to the fairness and integrity of the institution. It also provides an opportunity to work with members of faculty and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review Appeals: Carefully read and analyze student appeals to understand the context and grounds for the appeal.
  • Participate in Meetings: Attend scheduled meetings to discuss and deliberate on appeal cases.
  • Provide Input: Offer thoughtful and unbiased input during discussions to help reach fair and just decisions.

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment: Must be a current student registered in the Faculty of Mathematics in Good or Excellent Academic Standing
  • Academic Integrity: Demonstrated commitment to academic integrity and ethical behavior.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze information and make reasoned judgments.
  • Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Commitment: Willingness to commit to the required time and responsibilities.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with other committee members.
