Two MME students have received the annual Paul-Niessen Teck Award, established in memory of distinguished professor Paul Niessen from the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. The distinction is awarded to students who demonstrate leadership and skill in materials science and manufacturing within the department.  

The Art of Engineering and Architecture research photo contest 2025 had a wide range of beautiful entries all of which truly represented the heart of the contest, showcasing the beauty of their fields. Second-place, with a prize of $500, was taken by Mikhail Malmyguine, a graduate student in mechanical and mechatronics engineering.

An MME alumnus of mechatronics engineering who is building a career in national defence and avionics has won a $50,000 scholarship to further pursue her graduate studies.  

Each year, Clarivate publishes its Highly Cited Researchers™ 2025 list, which ranks the world’s top researchers and scientists in the top 1%. This is done by the number of citations researchers have in any given year.    

Dr. Ehsan Toyserkani has recently received the Award of Excellence in Education by the ASTM Additive Manufacturing Centre of Excellence (AM CoE) at their ICAM 2025 conference.

Four professors in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering have received national support for their research through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) through the John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF).

Claire Diffey (BASc '17, mechanical engineering) and Christina Sullivan (BASc '23, mechatronics engineering) both work for the Williams Racing Team, one of the largest teams in Formula One.  

Researchers in MME have developed a device that generates enough energy to power a calculator, using a versatile food—walnuts.
