Congratulations to PhD student Ahmed Saieed for winning the 2021 Graduate Scholarship Award from the CFD Society of Canada. The award is a national-level recognition and was created in 2005 to encourage graduate students to pursue the topic of computational fluid dynamics in their thesis. Each year, up to two students are awarded $4,000 scholarships and applicants must be a full-time Master or PhD student and an active member of the CFDSC.
Three MME professors, Zhao Pan, XiaoYu Wu and Yimin Wu, will receive a total of $264,900 under a federal program designed to give exceptional researchers the tools and equipment needed to become leaders in their fields. This grant was financed through a federal program to assist researchers and $77 million was given out to support 332 researchers across Canada.
Congratulations to our Mechatronics Student lead team of Brandon Chan, Jack Paduchowski, and Kurtis Eisler and their company Maesos for winning one of the Spring 2021 Concept $5k Grants. Even during the middle of a pandemic, the team was able to push through all obstacles and turn their ideas into reality.
The International Association for Green Energy and Tianjin University are hosting the 13th International Green Energy Conference. The IGEC is happening on July 15-18th virtually.
The IGEC is a multi–disciplinary conference on energy systems and technologies with no/reduced environmental, economic and social impact, and provides a forum for the exchange of technical information, for the dissemination of high-quality research results, and for the debate and shaping of future directions and priorities in energy sustainability and security.
The World Fuel Cell Conference (WFCC) is happening August 16th-20th 2021. The WFCC will be a virtual event due to the current situation. The WFCC is organized by the International Association for Hydrogen Energy, CHFCA, Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology and the University of Waterloo.
Congratulation to the WATonomous team for achieving a second place win in the final year of the SAE AutoDrive Challenge. The team has more than 50 students at the moment and advised by Derek Rayside and William Melek. WATonomous also cooperated with research labs such as the Mechatronic Vehicle Systems Lab.
