It is of great sadness to announce the passing of Aidan Walker, a second-year mechatronics engineering student who passed away on January 2, 2021 due to a brain aneurysm. 

Aidan was an outgoing 19 year-old young man with a bright future. He was a competitive swimmer where he competed at the national level. He was also a top student graduating highschool with the highest honours.

He passed away peacefully at St. Michael's Hospital surrounded by family.

The University of Waterloo and the National Research Council (NRC) are combining efforts to accelerate 3D printing processes using metals. One key focus of this collaboration will be the development of experimental metal alloy powders to be used in the printing process. 

MME professor Sanjeev Bedi recently won the F2020 semester Teaching Excellence Award for providing an exceptional online learning experience for his students. During lectures, professor Bedi always gives real-life examples and makes sure to connect with each and every student to ensure each student is understanding the material. He is a friend to all his students and will often emphasize tips on how to balance both school and a healthy lifestyle. 

Pearl Sullivan, Waterloo's former dean of engineering and the first woman to hold the position, died on November 28 after a 12-year battle with cancer.

Passionate about supporting students, she was dedicated to ensuring they had a full understanding of engineering principles as well as the tools and facilities they needed to succeed. [full story]

Alan Plumtree remembered

Alan Plumtree, a co-designer of a pump that provides clean drinking water to developing countries, died on November 5.

Plumtree, a Waterloo mechanical engineering professor, and Alfred Rudin, a Waterloo chemistry professor, created the hand-operated pump in the late 1970s after being approached by the International Development Research Centre.

Michael WorswickMichael Worswick, engineering professor in Mechanical Mechatronics Engineering at University of Waterloo, was recognized as one of thirty-six individuals receiving the Award of Excellence during Tech Day 2020. He was the only recipient of the Key Collaborator Category.

Carolyn Ren and Yimin A Wu, both engineering professors in Mechanical Mechatronics Engineering at University of Waterloo, and are two of 16 recipients recognized for achievements for outstanding contributions to the nanotechnology field.
