The School of Planning was pleased to host Robert Walter-Joseph at the annual Induction Ceremony, held virtually for the first time this year! Robert is an alumnus of the School of Planning and the Department of Geography and Environmental Management in the Faculty of Environment. He is currently working as a Planner with Gladki Planning Associates.
Robert offered thoughtful and engaging comments in a short address for the incoming class. Asking first-year students (and planners in general) to reflect on the responsibilities of the planning profession, Robert suggests we ask ourselves: “Whose problem are you trying to solve, who are you and where do you come from, and what is planning now?”
Robert shared valuable insights on how planning decisions can impact racialized communities in Canada, and explained necessary changes for the profession to adapt to the ongoing and new challenges facing our communities. The School of Planning is immensely appreciative of Robert’s participation in the event.
