an is an internationally recognized expert studying the critical issues around gentrification and neighbourhood change. His academic background includes degrees in Canada: Honours BA in Urban Economic and Social Geography from the University of Toronto, as well as the Netherlands where he obtained a M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Urban Geography and Planning from Utrecht University. Brian has held a number of academic appointments including Assistant Professor at Utrecht and most recently as Senior Lecturer at Erasmus University College where he lead their Urban Studies program. A recent example of his impressive scholarship is his edited volume: Why Detroit Matters: Decline, renewal and hope in a divided city. An award winning teacher and scholar, we are very much looking forward to working with Brian as he brings his passion, creativity, and international vision to the School of Planning and Faculty of Environment.
