Our MA/MES (Planning) students need practical experience in Planning - e.g., land use planning, health planning, urban design, applied research, etc. To meet that need, the School requires that students complete 10-14 weeks of work experience - an Internship - between Year 1 and 2 of the program, typically during the Spring academic term (May to August).
Ideally, these opportunities should be paid positions. Unpaid internships may be accepted depending on the requirements of the position. Students are expected to find these opportunities and to contact potential employers directly. The School supports this search process by posting Internship opportunities for review by our graduate students.
We know that budgets are often tight, especially while we all cope with the impacts of COVID-19. The good news is that financial assistance is available. The Government of Canada has a program that could fund a position and thereby take some pressure off your corporate budget. It's called the Student Work Placement Program (SWPP).
