Adding a Shortcut to OneDrive from SharePoint

Windows

  1. Open your preferred browser and navigate to the SharePoint site folder you want to create a shortcut from.
  2. Select the folder you want to add as a shortcut. Click on the "Add shortcut to OneDrive" button near the top of the page and wait for the confirmation message saying the shortcut has been added to your OneDrive.
  3. Open OneDrive through File Explorer and the shortcut will appear as a folder with a small arrow under OneDrive "YourName - University of Waterloo".

MacOS

  3. Open OneDrive through Finder and the shortcut will appear as a folder with a small square box inside the folder icon under OneDrive "YourName - University of Waterloo".

Notes

  1. Adding shortcuts to OneDrive doesn't sync anything directly to your computer, so it won't affect your OneDrive storage. It simply creates a link to the document library or folder. You will need an internet connection to access and edit the content — offline access is unavailable with this feature.

  2. This feature only works for internal users — you cannot add shortcuts to folders shared with external users outside of the University of Waterloo.
