On April 8th, the Faculty of Science is inviting undergraduate students on an unforgettable trip to view the solar eclipse along Lake Erie. Registration is required and transportation will be provided. Space is limited. Weather dependant.
The Faculty of Science in conjunction with the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics invites science alumni and friends to Hare Winery Co in Niagara-on-the-Lake for a viewing party of the 2024 full solar eclipse.
Astronomers will guide guests through the physics of an eclipse, as well as be on hand to answer questions about the cosmos. Guests will have access to telescopes in the vineyard to further enjoy the beauty of this celestial phenomena.
Join Dr. Avery Broderick on UW campus for an evening discussing black holes, recent images from the Event Horizon Telescope and what exciting research we can expect in the future.
At this month's KPL astronomy talk, Cam Morgan will speak about the CASTOR mission, an ultra-violet telescope that promises to compliment other cutting-edge missions, such as Euclid and the Roman Space Telescope, throughout the 2030s.
As part of the ongoing celebrations surrounding Dr. Brian McNamara's achievements leading up to his 65th birthday, the Faculty of Science welcomes Dr. Helen Russell to UW. Dr Russell from the University of Nottingham will present a public astrophysics lecture entitled Black Hole Feedback.
Dark energy is a strange and enigmatic form of energy, causing our Universe to grow and expand at an increasingly fast rate. While the exact nature of this energy remains a total mystery, new astronomical instruments are shedding light on dark energy like never before. Join us at this month's KPL astronomy talk, when Dr. Enrique Paillas will speak about the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), and what its newest results tell us about the dark Universe.
Science alumni and friends are welcomed back to campus May 31-June 1, 2024 for a variety of events happening around UW campus
