As a country, Canada came to being through colonial violence that displaced and stripped First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples’ of their cultures, languages, and families. The legacy of violence suffered, including residential schools, health care practices, the child welfare system, and many other systems, continue to impact generations of Indigenous Peoples.
