Are you seeking support as an International Student? Cyntia Brătan is here to help!

The Student Success Office (SSO) at the University of Waterloo hosts the International Student Experience (ISE) team. In January 2023, ISE introduced a brand-new role to enhance the international undergraduate and graduate student experience: the International Student Support Specialist.

We connected with the International Student Support Specialist, Cyntia Brătan, to learn how she can support you as an international student.

Why was the International Student Support Specialist role created?

The COVID-19 pandemic created several physical and mental obstacles for students. ISE listened to the concerns and needs voiced by international students and responded by creating the International Student Support Specialist role. Cyntia can help you as an international student by providing support in navigating complex issues.

How does the International Student Support Specialist help students?

“My goal is to support international students as they deal with problems of varying complexity,” says Cyntia, “I’ve connected students to resources across campus and helped them navigate stressors from their home country, like war and natural disasters. I am committed to creating a supportive and nurturing experience for international students like you!”

Some examples of how Cyntia helped other international students includes:

  • Supported students who had medical emergencies as they navigated available resources;

  • Supported students impacted by conflict and crisis in their home country;

  • Supported students who needed help with accessing resources available off campus (and on campus).

How can I reach out to the International Student Support Specialist?
