On June 6, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced that 13 additional countries would be added to the electronic travel authorization (eTA) program. An eTA is an entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals travelling to Canada by air. After applying for and being approved for an eTA, it is electronically linked to your passport and is valid for up to 5 years or until your passport expires (whichever comes first).
The following countries have now been added to the eTA program:
Antigua and Barbuda
Argentina
Costa Rica
Morocco
Panama
Philippines
St. Kitts and Nevis
St. Lucia
St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Seychelles
Thailand
Trinidad and Tobago
Uruguay
In order to qualify for an eTA, applicants from the countries listed above must have either held a Canadian visa in the last 10 years or must currently hold a valid United States non-immigrant visa. Individuals who already have a valid temporary resident visa (TRV) in their passport can continue to use it to travel to Canada. A valid TRV is still required to travel to Canada by any means other than air (car, bus, train, or boat).
