The
Department
of
Applied
Mathematics
is
pleased
to
welcome David
Del
Rey
Fernándezas
an
assistant
professor. David
completed
his
PhD
at
the
University
of
Toronto
Institute
for
Aerospace
Studies
and
was
a
research
scientist
at
NASA
Langley
Research
Center
and
the
National
Institute
of
Aerospace
before
joining
the
University
of
Waterloo.
His
research
areas
are
in
developing
robust
algorithms
for
the
numerical
solution
of
partial
differential
equations
with
an
emphasis
on
mathematically
rigorous
methods
on
complex
potentially
moving/deforming
geometry
and
approaches
for
improving
efficiency
on
high
performance
computing
systems
(e.g.,
mesh
adaptation,
machine
learning
for
acceleration).
