The 2016 Applied Mathematics Doctoral Award has been given to Wilten Nicola. The award, which is valued at $200 CAD, is given annually to a departmental nominee for the Alumni Gold Medal and the Governor General’s Gold Medal. Dr. Nicola defended his PhD, entitled "Bifurcation Analysis of Large Networks of Neurons", in 2015, and is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Imperial College London.
The following Applied Mathematics students have won graduate scholarships for 2016/2017:
Former PhD student Sina Khani has received the 2015/2016 Applied Mathematics Graduate Research Award.
Recent Applied Math PhD graduate, Wilten Nicola, is one of two co-winners of this year's CAIMS Doctoral Dissertation Award.
Applied Mathematics undergraduate student Gabin Urbancic has received the 2016 Daniel G. Wright Undergraduate Scholarship.
Eleven graduate degrees in Applied Mathematics were awarded at the 2016 spring convocation.
Applied Math PhD student Alexander Howse has received the 2016 Certificate in University Teaching Award.
Lindsey Daniels, Moriah Magcalas, and Vivek Thampi each received at least two outstanding TA nominations for their work in the Spring 2015, Fall 2015, and Winter 2016 terms. They will each receive a $150 UW gift card.
