ECON-nection Mentorship Program

The ECON-nection Mentorship Program is an opportunity for incoming Economics students to be paired with and mentored by an upper year student. Transitioning from first-year arts into your major program can be exciting and challenging but the friendly advice of a mentor can help to ease the transition into the new department!

Mentors are student volunteers who are happy to welcome you to the Economics community and are interested in:

  • Sharing what it's like to be an ECON student
  • Talking about their co-op and academic experiences
  • Providing tips for effective time management
  • Offering advice in securing your first co-op position
  • Recommending places to study or eat on campus
  • Contributing what they think is important for ECON students to know

Key Accountabilities

  • Engage your mentees in a meaningful way to foster a sense of community within the department of Economics by being an approachable, non-judgmental resource
  • Reporting mentoring accomplishments to your program supervisor

Eligibility (as of the upcoming Fall term)

  • Student in 3A term or higher
  • At least one co-op work term completed (for co-op plan students)
  • Actively enrolled in an Honours ECON plan, including Mathematical Economics
  • A fantastic attitude and passion for Economics
  • No previous experience required
