Specialized Crisis Support

Sometimes we are working through complex situations that require more specialized support than a generic crisis line can provide. There are a variety of resources that have been developed to support individuals with specific concerns. Below are some of these specialized resources and support.

Crisis and Urgent Support Lines

Indigenous People Support Lines

  • Hope for Wellness - 1-855-242-3310 (toll-free) - offers immediate help to all Indigenous peoples across Canada.
  • Talk 4 Healing - call 1-855-554-4325 available 24/7 - culturally grounded and confidential helpline for Indigenous women available in 14 languages across Ontario.

  • Waterloo Regional Police Services Hate Crime Resources (WRPS) - if you experienced or witnessed a hate crime, WRPS can guide you through the experience.
  • Kids Help Phone - Black Youth - text RISE at 686868 OR call 1-800-668-6868 (toll-free) - crisis service that does not require an app, a data plan, or wifi, and supports kids, teens, and young adults.
  • Black Youth Helpline - call 416-285-9944 OR 1-833-294-8650 (toll-free)
  • Sakhi - call 1-212-868-6741 (10:00 - 22:00 ET Monday - Saturday) - Helpline for South Asian Women in North America offering support in 8 languages.
  • If you are a student or employee and you’ve experienced racism and need a space for support, understanding your resources, you can connect with the Equity Office for help.
  • The Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-racism (EDI-R)  works with students and employees across campus to advance anti-racism and equity through evidence-based policies, practices and programs.

Substance Use, Gambling, and Addiction

  • Drug and Alcohol Helpline. Call 1-800-565-8603 
  • Drug Rehab Services (DRS) - Call 1-877-254-3348 - Free, confidential professional help and resource for drug and alcohol addiction in Canada. Provides referrals for those seeking support with substances.
  • Rapid Access Addiction Clinic (RAAC) (Waterloo-Wellington) - assists people who are struggling with substance dependency. At the RAAC, Medical Practitioners, Counselors, and Peer Support Workers are all available to provide assistance to everyone – regardless of substance used.
