Earlier this week, FAUW issued a list of demands that we want the University administration to meet before in-person teaching resumes on February 7, to support a safe return to campus for all members of the UW community. We know that this return to in-person work is affecting members differently, whether because of differences in how departments and Faculties are responding, life circumstances, or other reasons. For instance, faculty in some departments are receiving N95s and rapid tests, while others are not being offered this option.
All faculty are invited to a town hall meeting from 11:30–12:45 on Monday, January 31 to help the FAUW Board further refine its understanding of the questions and concerns you have at this time.
All faculty represented by FAUW have received an invitation to this meeting. If you can't find yours, or are a faculty member not represented by FAUW (e.g. at St. Jerome's or research faculty) but would like to attend, please email Laura McDonald.
We would like to know your questions/concerns and what's happening in your department/Faculty for each of these three areas:
1. Specific safety precautions (e.g., demands 1– 3 in Tuesday’s statement, for N95s, rapid tests, and possibly a 3rd dose requirement).
2. Information we need from the University (e.g., demands 4 and 9, re: air quality information and survey results).
3. Consultation with faculty (see demands 5–8 about meaningful consultation).
Please note that the meeting will be transcribed (but not recorded) to help FAUW collect and synthesize faculty questions and concerns and communicate them (anonymously) to the University.
