Support for Laurentian University Faculty Association endorsed at FAUW General Meeting

Friday, April 16, 2021

The FAUW membership voted to endorse the following message at its FAUW Spring General Meeting on April 16:

FAUW expresses its support for the Laurentian University Faculty Association in its fight to ensure that Laurentian University's future is strong and that its collective agreements are followed. We believe that proper collegial governance, with Senate oversight of all academic decisions, is essential for that strong future. And we call on the provincial government to properly fund the university, to remove it from the current insolvency, and to restore proper standards of governance and accountability to Laurentian.

FAUW previously issued a statement of solidarity for our colleagues at Laurentian on April 13 in response to the news about faculty job terminations and program closures at the university, and one on February 25 stating our opposition to the use of the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act for the public university. The UW Librarians' and Archivists' Association has also issued a statement of solidarity with colleagues at Laurentian.
