John Muñoz, GI member and Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Intelligent Technologies for Wellness and Independent Living (ITWIL) Lab, showcased the VR Exergames project at the "Curiosity Fair" organized by the Research Institute of Aging and hosted at the Village at University Gates on May 31. The event invited people of all ages, from children to older adults, to learn about and explore innovative research on fun and curious topics, including the studies coming out of the ITWIL Lab.
Muñoz is a research scientist and game designer whose present research with ITWIL involves designing Virtual Reality (VR) exergames for older adults with dementia. He brought VR exergame demos to the showcase so that visitors could observe the virtual environments and activities developed for people living with dementia.
Also showcasing the ITWIL exergame demos were Yirou Li, also from the GI, Taylor Faiczak, volunteer from UofT, and Nina Bonnier, research intern with ITWIL:
Kids, members of the local community, and residents were able to interact with the system and discuss the endless possibilities of VR in long-term care homes. Learn more about the ITWIL Lab and VR Exergames here.
