SPHHS teams place in Canadian Evaluation Society student case competition

Monday, June 16, 2014

Two teams from Waterloo's School of Public Health and Health Systems beat out 18 other teams from universities across Canada and the United States to finish in second and third place at the 2014 Canadian Evaluation Society’s Student Case Competition in Ottawa.

Waterloo teams have won this competition in 2000, 2001, 2005, 2008, 2012 and swept the national competition in 2013. This year's teams were coached by Professor Anita Myers from SPHHS, and Jennifer Yessis, a scientist with the Propel Centre for Population Impact who herself was a member of the winning case competition team in 2000.

Held annually, the competition helps students build skills in evaluating public policies and programs using real examples from public sector. This year, the teams had to present their proposals for an evaluation of the Mitacs Accelerate Program to a panel of judges and conference delegates.
