IQC Sponsors APS Best Student Paper

Once again, the GQI will award two "Best Student Paper" prizes at the APS March meeting, one for theoretical work, and one for experimental. The awards, each consisting of a $500 cash prize, will be sponsored by Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Canada, and the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo.

Coherent Spintronics Workshop

A two day workshop on "Coherent Spintronics" to be held January 10-11, 2008, at the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC). It is intended to foster collaborative work on topics such as coherent spin systems, quantum dots, and superconducting quantum devices. Research groups from IQC, the Institute for Microstructural Science (NRC-Ottawa), and MIT are presently collaborating on relevant projects and are expected to attend.

Innovation station

Quantum computing and Waterloo featured in Canadian Business magazine's Canada 2020 special. It suggests 10 areas where Canada has a chance to become a global leader.

Researchers at the Institute for Quantum Computing (University of Waterloo), in collaboration with MIT, have identified an experimental method to facilitate the design of prototype quantum computers and any other technologies requiring many-body quantum coherence.
