Their journeys span technology, finance, public health, entrepreneurship and community impact, yet each story reflects the same powerful truth. When women lead with clarity, courage and conviction, they open doors for others to rise with them. These profiles are a tribute to women who push boundaries, solve big problems and redefine what is possible. Jennifer Francis, BMath’84, Pure Mathematics and Computer Science

Building ecosystems for women in tech and investment 

“It is important that more women get into the industry both because these are good careers and because diversity drives better solutions.” 

Jennifer is an angel investor and ecosystem builder who works to expand opportunities for women in technology and investment.Through initiatives like SheBoot and her leadership within Capital Angel Network, she champions practical programs that strengthen networks, increase access to capital and grow a more inclusive innovation economy.

Teresa Fortney, BMath’86, Accounting and Finance

“I love solving problems and that became a key signature during my career and it carries forward in the way I focus on helping and serving others as well.” 

Teresa turned a Waterloo math education into a dynamic executive career across multiple industries, guided consistently by problem solving, mentorship and service. Her leadership style centres on collaboration, accessibility and giving through what she loves to do making her impact both practical and deeply people focused.

Dr. Karima Ladhani, BMath'10, Business and Math Double Degree
