Impressive results for the Faculty of Mathematics in 2013 QS World University Rankings by Subject

Computer Science and Information Systems, Mathematics, and Statistics and Operational Research are among the Waterloo subject areas that have shown increasing strength in the QS World University Rankings by Subject. Overall, the University of Waterloo features in the world’s elite (Top 200) institutions in 19 of the 30 subjects featured in this year’s rankings.

2013 is the third year of this international academic subject ranking. Mathematics, and Statistics and Operational Research for Waterloo both ranked in the ’51-100’ category in 2011 and 2012. This year, they are up to 29 and 32 respectively. Waterloo Computer Science and Information Systems moved up from 36 in 2011, to 34 in 2012 and is now rank 27th worldwide.

Waterloo ranks in the top 50 in just three subject areas: Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics and Operational Research.

2,858 universities were evaluated, 678 ranked. 68 million citations analyzed for 8,391 programs.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject is based on reputation with academics and employers, citations, and H-index – which “attempts to measure both productivity and impact of the published work of a scientist or scholar.” More information on the ranking methodology is available from QS.
