With over 30 years of experience in the financial services sector, Jane is a recognized leader in governance, risk management, regulatory compliance, and internal audit services. Jane is a recently retired Vice Chair of Deloitte Canada and a former member of the firm’s Leadership team. Prior to that role, Jane occupied various positions at Deloitte including that of Canadian Managing Partner, Quality & Risk and of Global Chief Risk Officer. She is a former member of Deloitte’s Board of Directors and Risk Committee.
Jane’s governance and risk experience include numerous reviews and independent evaluations of large multi-national organizations responding to regulator findings.
Jane was most recently lead partner for Deloitte’s most significant Financial Institutions clients and was responsible for overseeing a broad range of services including strategy, technology, risk (including cyber), finance, analytics and digital transformation.
Jane is a frequent speaker at conferences focusing on Regulatory Compliance, Internal Audit, Corporate Governance and Enterprise Risk Management. Jane has lectured on auditing and management accounting at various universities nationwide.
Jane has been an advocate for women throughout her career and was recognized as one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women in 2014. Jane was also recognized with a University of Waterloo Math Alumni Achievement award in 2013.

As an inspiring leader, we asked Jane a few questions about her time at Waterloo, career and advice for the next generation of women looking to follow in her footsteps.
Why did you choose to study at Waterloo and the Faculty of Mathematics?
Like many, I choose Waterloo for the co-op program, which was the leader at the time. I choose math because I was good at it in high school!
How did Waterloo help prepare you for your career?
What I have always appreciated is my analytical ability that was built during my Waterloo years. Being able to analyze information, connect dots and problem solve has served me very well in my career. I loved my time at Waterloo and to this day, cherish the lifelong friends I met on campus.
What unique skills do you see women bringing to the table in your field?
Typical female characteristics such as compassion, honesty and authenticity are now recognized as key leadership qualities sought after by business leaders.
What would you tell other young women choosing to study math or computer science at Waterloo?
