What some say could be the future of public transportation in Whitby has a top speed of 20 kilometres per hour. For safety reasons, that’s as fast as the new eight-seater driverless vehicle will be travelling when they start transporting their first passengers. The six-kilometer route, which the vehicle will follow, is said to be the longest AV circuit in Canada to date and will be in use within the next few weeks.

Congratulations to Jared Uramowski and Muhammad Shehryar Khan for winning the Paul Niessen-Teck Award on behalf of Teck Metals Ltd. (former Cominco). This award consists of a medal and $2,000 awarded annually to one or two students who demonstrate leadership and skill in the Materials Science and Manufacturing Laboratories of the MME Department.

New Faculty Announcement: Yue Hu

Yue Hu's research interests mainly focus on physical human-robot interaction, optimal control, human motion analysis, and humanoid robots. Prior to joining the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo as an Assistant Professor, Yue had lived and worked in many different places and countries.

Congratulations to Hamid Jahed, Mary Wells, and Steve Lambert for becoming the recipients of the 2021 IMA Awards of Excellence. The award was given to the project group whom have been working in collaboration with Multimatic, Canmet Materials and Ford Motor Company over the past five years.
