The School of Planning’s Dr. Markus Moos spoke with Newsweek to discuss a recent trend among Gen Z – moving down South. In the United States, South Carolina & Tennessee saw some of the highest levels of migration, according to a recent analysis.
Dr. Moos argues this trend is shaped by the dominant events of our time, such as the housing crisis of 2008, rising housing costs and the COVID-19 pandemic. This has led Gen Z to prioritize quality of life when choosing where to live, even in lieu of career opportunities.
