that
Leia
Minaker
is
joining
our
team
as
of
Oct.
1,
2016,
as
a
tenure
track
Assistant
Professor.
Leia
is
a
dynamic
scholar
who
is
leading
very
timely
and
important
research
focused
on
food
access,
public
health
and
communities.
Her
academic
background
is
in
Health
Studies
(B.Sc.
(Hon),
Waterloo),
Health
Promotion
(M.Sc.
University
of
Alberta)
and
Public
Health
Sciences
(Ph.D.
University
of
Alberta),
and
she
has
been
successfully
funded
in
her
research
work
by
SSHRC,
CIHR,
and
the
Canadian
Cancer
Society
Research
Institute.
Leia
has
held
a
number
of
previous
positions
including
most
recently
with
the
Propel
Centre
for
Population
Health
Impact
and
is
very
much
is
engaged
with
the
practice
community.
“Healthy
communities”
is
the
aspirational
focus
of
Professional
Planning
and
certainly
is
a
key
part
of
how
the
School
of
Planning
positions
it
research
and
teaching.
We
are
extremely
pleased
and
excited
that
Leia
will
be
bringing
her
expertise,
drive
and
commitment
to
impactful,
community
centered
work
to
the
School
of
Planning
and
Faculty
of
Environment!
