Sessional Teaching Positions for Spring 2023

The School of Planning at the University of Waterloo is inviting applications for two sessional lecturer positions. The courses are taught in the Spring 2023 term. The positions require a minimum qualification of a Master’s degree and evidence of teaching experience and/or training. PhD candidates should normally have completed their comps and proposal.

For PLAN /CIVE 484 held with 684 (in-person), duties normally include developing and delivering course content and assessments (including a course syllabus), 3 hours of classroom time per week, weekly office hours, course administration and communication with students regarding course content and special circumstances, developing assignments and/or tests, grading of student work and submitting final grades. 

For PLAN 704 (fully on-line, course content already prepared), duties normally include helping students with understanding course content and assignment requirements, office hours and other on-line engagement as required, course administration and communication with students regarding course content and special circumstances, grading of student work and submitting final grades.

Some courses include TA allocations, depending on enrollment. If applicable, sessional lecturers are responsible for managing assigned TAs. The sessional compensation rate per course for 2022-2023 is $8,910 (+4% vacation pay) for the term.

Physical Infrastructure Planning

The need for infrastructure and environmental assessments; the impacts of infrastructure on urban form; core infrastructure concepts; economics of infrastructure costs, finance, and pricing. Infrastructure evaluation and management methods.

PLAN 704 (fully on-line)

Methods of Planning Analysis

This course is a graduate level introduction into the analytical methods employed in planning research and practice. The broad spectrum of tools, approaches and techniques drawn from quantitative and qualitative traditions will be reviewed. Commonly employed examples will form the basis for developing applied problem-solving skills. Operational considerations, critical assessment, and analytical communication provide the important review context. 

Mandatory safety training includes Employee Safety Orientation (SO1001), Workplace Violence Awareness (SO1081) and WHMIS (SO2017).
