Dr. Rebecca Mayers is a post-doctoral researcher working with Dr. Brian Doucet in the School of Planning. She completed her Ph.D. in Community and Regional Planning at the University of British Columbia. Her research examines the structural and societal systems that impede access to safe and inclusive environments. In particular, she investigates three complementary areas: (i) equitable access and participation in active transportation, (ii) placemaking initiatives to promote social connectedness, and (iii) community engagement techniques for equitable involvement in public policy.

She is involved in multiple projects at the University of Waterloo, including the "Everybody Bikes" and the "Hamilton Neighbourhood Change" research. In the "Everybody Bikes" project, she investigates the unique cycling experience over the life course of those who have lived in the Netherlands and Canada. As part of the Hamilton neighbourhood change research team, she is focused on examining the experience of those who live along the proposed LRT corridor in Hamilton to help develop strategies to create inclusive communities along the route.
