Kwabena Owusu

Postdoctoral Fellow
Headshot of School of Planning Post-Doctoral Fellow Kwabena Owusu.

Kwabena is a postdoctoral fellow working with Professor Dawn Parker in the School of Planning. Prior to joining us at Waterloo he completed a postdoctoral position at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS-Senegal) - a Pan-African center of excellence for post-graduate training, research, and public engagement in mathematics.

He completed his Ph.D. in Mathematics (University Cheikh Anta Diop-Senegal, 2020). His doctoral research concerned data analysis and mathematical modeling of human harvest behaviors in common-pool resource systems, with applications to fisheries. Specifically, he analyzed the ecological and socioeconomic conditions under which fishermen cooperate and can thus lead to sustainable resource management.

He is involved in the RISE project that examines the impact of residential land developments on climate change mitigation with special attention to terrestrial-aquatic interaction effects. His research activity in this position includes ensuring best practices for the integration, verification, and validation of integrated project models.

He is fascinated with modeling and analysis of complex ecological and socio-economic systems using different quantitative methods, ranging from numerical to statistical models in light of empirical or experimental data (with applications on sustainability, human behavior, and climate change).
