Understanding the Different Versions of Teams
Microsoft has launched a new edition of Teams that will be rolled out to the University of Waterloo during the Winter Reading Week on February 20, 2024. Some computers may already have this new edition installed, but won't work until then. Below is a guide to assist in understanding each version of Teams and which one to use.
Microsoft Teams classic (work or school)
The Classic Teams version icon has a white "T" against a purple background. Microsoft is retiring this version on March 31, 2024, but is the suggested version for current use before the upgrade.
Microsoft Teams (work or school)
The New Teams version icon has a white "T" on a purple background with the "NEW" label along the bottom. This version will be available on February 20th, 2024.
Note: If you open this version of Teams accidently, you may get a message saying "Your admin has restricted access to the new Teams". Please select the option to "Switch to classic Teams" until the new version is available.
Microsoft Teams
The consumer version of Teams icon has a purple "T" on a white background. This version is not compatible with your University of Waterloo account.
