St. Paul's International Development grad wins $20,000 fellowship
St. Paul's alumnus Ian Pinnell, who graduated from International Development just this term, has won a fellowship worth $20,000 at the MaRS Discovery District in Toronto.

Lindsay Kalbfleisch, a Recreation and Leisure student who lived at St. Paul’s in 2010-11, was immediately moved to action when she heard the news about the devastating earthquake in Nepal. Kalbfleisch had travelled to Mount Everest base camp along with 13 other UWaterloo students and their Geography Professor Sanjay Nepal in April 2014. At least half of those students had lived at St. Paul’s and many others participated in academic and community life at the College. In fact, approximately 30 St.
Twenty-seven fourth-year International Development (INDEV) students return to campus on Monday, April 27 after two terms interning with local development organizations in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Placed through the World University Service of Canada in countries such as Senegal, Ghana, Nepal, Peru, Vietnam, Botswana, and Burkina Faso, the students will have a week of debriefing and then make final presentations at a capstone event at St. Paul’s University College on Friday, May 1.
St. Paul’s University College will recognize 10 Distinguished Alumni and two Young Alumni Award winners this Friday, March 27, at the Donalda Club in Toronto. The awards recognize alumni who have achieved notable professional success and have made significant contributions to their community or shown leadership in a field relating to St. Paul’s mission and values.
Recipients are all University of Waterloo alumni who lived in residence at St. Paul’s for at least two terms, or studied an academic program offered at St. Paul’s.
In memory of Alexandra Josephine Foto: 1995 – 2014
The Alex Foto Memorial Fund will support a student that cares deeply about humanitarian and poverty issues, and who is participating in the International Development Program’s fourth-year field placement in a developing country.
Additional funds raised will assist with the purchase of a memorial bench and tree, along with a plaque for Alex, on campus as a tribute to her passion to learn.
Humanitarian and former parliamentarian Lloyd Axworthy will be installed as the first chancellor of St. Paul’s University College today. As part of his duties, Axworthy will sit on the St. Paul’s Board of Governors and provide leadership to the College.
