Social Impact Fund Winners

  • Pluriversity ($6,000): Pluriversity is an online leadership program that empowers Indian Indigenous youth to be climate justice leaders.
  • A Barefoot Solution to the Water Crisis ($5,600): The goal of A Barefoot Solution is to leverage the methodology of the Barefoot College to empower Indigenous Matriarchs to bring clean water to their communities.
  • ConnectMe ($3,300): ConnectMe connects newcomers in Canada who are struggling with migration dilemmas with a diverse range of coaches of the same cultural background.
  • Drop Point Waste Solutions ($2,000): Drop Point Waste Solutions seeks to address the issue of excess waste entering traditional disposal systems in high-density residential buildings by implementing a unique ID entry system and weight scale.
  • GrassRoots ($1,500): GrassRoots is a digital tool designed for volunteer mentorship and community growth. 
  • Nurture ($1,500): Nurture’s goal is to foster positive mental health among youth by making Waterloo Region a Sustainable Food Forest.

People's Choice Winner

Julia Baribeau, Faculty of Engineering, was awarded an additional $1,000 for A Barefoot Solution to the Water Crisis for winning the People's Choice Award. This term, there were over 500 ballots cast for the People's Choice Award. 

Social Impact Fund Microgrant Recipients

  • Quize: Quize is an educational mobile app with relevant, engaging, and interactive content targeted towards high school students. 
  • Cyclops: Cyclops is an all-in-one resource app for environmental education and action. Their mission is to help individuals reduce their environmental footprint. 
  • Innovate Consulting: Innovate Consulting is a youth-led consulting firm that strives to improve and create meaningful employment opportunities for marginalized youth within the Waterloo Region.
