Mathematics Prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowships

Applications are invited for a limited number of distinguished postdoctoral fellowships to be held in the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Waterloo, awarded by the Faculty of Mathematics. The fellowships have an anticipated start date of September 1, 2024 (or earlier).  These positions are prestigious, two-year, research-focused fellowships with a salary of $75,000/annum and an associated research grant of $15,000/annum. The department has 30 regular faculty members, and has leading research programs in Scientific Computing Methods, Mathematical & Quantum Physics, Environmental & Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, Control & Dynamical Systems, and Mathematical Medicine & Biology. Candidates should indicate in their cover letter the names of faculty member(s) in the Department of Applied Mathematics they propose to work with.

In addition to engaging in research collaboration with a faculty member or members in the department, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain teaching experience (if desired). These are highly selective fellowships (adjudicated by a Faculty-wide selection committee for tenure in any of the five academic units of the Mathematics Faculty) and will be based on the candidate's outstanding research potential and fit with a supervisor in the department. All interested recent, outstanding PhDs are encouraged to apply.

The Department of Applied Mathematics is one of four departments that, together with the School of Computer Science, comprise the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. With 300 faculty members, 8,000 undergraduate students and more than 1,000 graduate students in mathematics and computer science, Waterloo’s Faculty of Mathematics is a global powerhouse in research, education and innovation. Research in the department is enhanced by interdisciplinary and industrial collaborations and links to interdisciplinary institutes including the Waterloo Artificial Intelligence Institute, the Centre for Computational Mathematics, the Waterloo Climate Institute, the Water Institute, the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, and the Institute for Quantum Computing. The department has a substantial graduate program with over 100 graduate students and strong undergraduate programs in applied mathematics, scientific computing and mathematical physics. More information about the department can be found at https://uwaterloo.ca/applied-mathematics/.

Applications for these fellowships are through the website MathJobs.org.  Candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae and a one-page research statement to www.MathJobs.org. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendation, to be submitted through the www.MathJobs.org website.

The application deadline is December 15, 2023.

We appreciate all replies to this advertisement, but only applicants under consideration will be contacted.
