Imagery is a visual storytelling device that brings the Waterloo brand to life.
When using photography and video containing images of people, always make sure you have permission from the subjects.
Waterloo Photos is an online Digital Asset Management (DAM) system developed to support the needs of the University of Waterloo with respect to storing, sorting and sharing digital assets, specifically image files.
It is centrally supported through the Information Systems and Technology department. You can learn more about this service on IST's website.
There are two ways to ensure you have the appropriate permission and distribution rights: image release forms and notices of photography.
Image release form
Use an image release form to obtain the appropriate permission and distribution rights for photography featuring a person or group of people.
Notice of photography
Post a notice of photography sign at all events advising patrons that the event will be recorded, and that images and audio may be broadcast, reproduced and/or made available in print publications, online or on mobile devices, and may form part of one or more audio-visual productions intended for initial release on the internet, television and on home or mobile devices.
