Open Educational Resources Save Students $$$

Friday, March 19, 2021

The Centre for Extended Learning's Kristin Wilson recently worked with Richard Eibach, the author of PSYCH 253, to redesign his course around open resources which resulted in overall student savings of $56,385 each term. By eliminating the textbook the 300 students who enrol in the course each term are each able to save $187.95 (list price).

The course is now mostly text-based and weaves together open resources with Eibach’s own content and various videos that bring the content to life in other ways. Continual but gradual change is very important to Eibach. He would like most of the content in the course to be his own eventually. Starting with open resources allows him to create his own content, module by module.
