Open Educational Resources Save Students $$$

The Centre for Extended Learning's Kristin Wilson recently worked with Richard Eibach, the author of PSYCH 253, to redesign his course around open resources which resulted in overall student savings of $56,385 each term. By eliminating the textbook the 300 students who enrol in the course each term are each able to save $187.95 (list price).

Virtual Forum on Navigating Academic Integrity Issues in Online Teaching and Learning

The Office of Academic Integrity is hosting a virtual forum on Tuesday June 30 from 10:00am - 11:30am to provide insight into academic integrity at Waterloo and showcase some examples. Representatives from multiple campus units will be on hand to answer your questions, and to provide support and follow-up after the session, as needed.

New Online Facilitation Resource Available

CEL has recently launched a new Open Education Resource called Fostering Engagement: Facilitating Online Courses in Higher Education which was designed for post-secondary instructors and teaching assistants who would like to better understand the critical role of online facilitation in online course delivery and build practical online facilitation skills and strategies that are relevant, effective, and authentic.

Instructors, are you looking for a starting point for your LEARN course site in the spring term?  We’ve created a site in LEARN which provides you with a simple and well-designed course structure, a series of template pages, and instructions on how to download and use each component.  To access the site, click on “Self-Registration” on your LEARN homepage and select “Templates for Remote Teaching” from the list.
