Questions & answers
Questions were welcomed in person and online. A summary of the questions posed, and FAUW responses are below.
RE: Sustainable Transportation – what further actions will FAUW be taking in regard to member complaints surrounding this issue?
FAUW is continuing to encourage feedback. Concerns and suggestions are being complied for further review. FAUW will work to ensure gaps in consultation and communication are addressed as part of our strategic plan.
UPDATE: Parking Services issued an update on April 19, advising that while price increases will be implemented on May 1, 2024, all other changes are currently postponed.
Is there an update on the P57 and P12 discussions?
P12 and P57 revisions are back with the policy development committees (PDCs). PDC work is currently on hold due to staffing issues in the Secretariat, and is expected to resume in the fall. FAUW will follow-up on these and P33 and share when we have more information.
What is FAUW intention with Bill166?
FAUW is drafting a statement about Bill 166. CAUT and OCUFA are advocating against this bill, as this is a large issue affecting higher education. There will be more information to follow.
Is there a timeline for an arbitration update?
A salary negotiation update was shared with FAUW members on April 19.
Are there any initiatives to assist short term contracts for anxieties by those in budget constraints?
FAUW represents members in their positions for longer than one year. They have our theoretical support, but they do not fall under the Association. FAUW advocates for financial plans that do not lead to lay-offs for any members.
What strategy could be in place to reverse the disconnect between the work faculty is doing and their degree and skill set?
FAUW is having discussions about workload. All components of the discussion (service, workload, what functions faculty should and should not be performing) will be pursued in parallel. {Discussions continued on the workload issue in relation to P76/77} FAUW reiterated that there is disagreement that “a course is a course” and the investigation into the workload components are quite detailed. There will be further investigation into the best approaches to this, and the Council of Representatives will be engaged. Studying workload and equitable distribution is a task FAUW will continue to turn its attention to in the coming months. The Fall General Meeting will be held on December 5, 2024. Minutes from the Spring General Meeting are shared and approved as part of the Fall General Meeting Agenda. We strongly encourage in person attendance and will provide food and refreshments.
