Each spring, the FAUW membership selects someone to chair the next academic year's general meetings.
What's involved?
Chairing (at least) two annual general meetings, one in April and one in December. Meetings are typically about 90 minutes long, sometimes up to two hours.
To prepare, you'll attend one or two meetings with FAUW staff and the FAUW parliamentarian to review the agenda and meeting procedures, and you'll want to review the FAUW constitution section about general meetings (and Roberts Rules if you need a refresher).
What are the qualifications?
GM chairs will need experience chairing large meetings effectively and efficiently, and an ability and willingness to enforce meeting rules in order to keep the meeting on time and on topic—and to ensure speaking time is distributed equitably.
Familiarity with meeting procedures in general and Roberts Rules specifically is helpful.
